Things I do in Jackson Wyoming:
Similar to my other list of where to dine; I also have a list of things that I do while living in Jackson. This is a constant request as well for people who visit, locals who live here, tourists who stay, and everyone in between. I’ll continue to update as I try new things and get out as much as I can. For now, here it is. Thanks for your patience, Melanie
Where to find me:
The biggest issue in Jackson is that there is too much to do and too many things going on. So, that means it is very important to be intentional about what you want to do and who you want to be. This goes for tourists and visitors as well. Here is what I have chosen. If any of these are interesting to you, I would LOVE to have you join me with all of them, some of them, or a few of them. Whatever you think or want to try. I get super overwhelmed if I say yes to everything, so these are really the “only” things I can do with the limited time I have.
- JHMR (Jackson Hole Mountain Resort) – I ski every day no matter what. I have the Grand By-Pass; but there are other passes that are available too (check out the website). My husband only has a 10-day pass, and my daughter has been in gymnastics and doesn’t ski; however this year, we are doing a family ski day every Saturday. Look for us on the mountain. Fridays, I have a locals group with early tram. All the other days, I ski with neighbors, friends, etc. Parking is an issue, so learn those rules (see the website). Yes, I still telemark. jacksonhole.com
- Figure Skating – this year, it’s starting on September 30th. I absolutely LOVE skating and it’s a super fun thing to do in the fall before ski season. The group is called Figure Skating Club of Jackson Hole. A lot of other moms are in it as well; last year, I got everyone motivated to go twice a week, so will probably do this again so we can practice. https://www.skatingclubofjacksonhole.com/
- Yoga – yes, I still go to Neesha’s class even after 20 years. She has a Tuesday morning class at 9 a.m. I’m trying to convince her to keep this forever. She also teaches at Dancers Workshop, but I’ve only been going to Home Yoga on East Hansen and I should probably try some new teachers this year. Will see. https://www.homeyogajh.com/
- Knit Night! – Knit on Pearl except now it’s at a new location; it used to be Thursdays, now it’s Wednesdays 6-8 p.m. and it’s just a bunch of us locals, including guys sometimes. You can be a complete beginner or advanced but it’s so fun to get together and knit. https://knitonpearl.com/
- GTMF (Grand Teton Music Festival) – I usher during the summer anytime I can. I love the music and the concerts and it’s something I’m interested in. Classical musicians, unite! gtmf.org
- Book Club – My book club happens to be all moms. My neighbor got me hooked. We read the books off the “well read moms” book club list every year and we take the summers off. We meet in the mornings once per month at 8:30 somewhere on the west bank to discuss the books with coffee. Everyone reads and brings things to discuss; it’s amazing. https://wellreadmom.com/
- Moose Hockey at Snowking Sports Arena – a MUST if you are a tourist and visiting; this is a fun local hang out with a live band. During the winter season Jan – March I go to the Moose hockey games every week. I only do one night either Friday or Saturday and I normally go for a girls night. There is band and the games are good, just like the old days 20 years ago. My daughter came once with a friend and they literally walked home to our house after 10 minutes, so maybe no kids under the teenage years? Will see what I can do this year.
- I also really want to do Shakespeare in the Park in the summer, so will book that offsquare.org
- This festival you can’t miss out on https://www.jhfarmtofork.com/
- Wilson Firefighters Chicken Fry on the banks of the Snake River. Yes, I have missed this every year so far. It’s the last weekend in July. If you are in town, you will see everyone you’ve ever met. If you’re visiting?? I sent my friends once, and they absolutely loved it. It is a huge local’s event and you’ll see what the real people that live in Wyoming are truly like. We’re friendly and welcoming. Come one, come all. Best event of the year! I’ll be there next year.
Yes, there’s plenty more things to do I haven’t even discussed the farmer’s markets or the hiking or the art festivals; I’ll see what I can add as a “regular” and I’ll update the above when I get the chance. I’m also going to attach my AllTrails so you can see which hikes to complete. And mountain biking too. Have fun in Jackson Hole!
